It’s a long story. It started with a collaboration with a very talented Milwaukee artist; (of whom I adore to this day) we had planned to work on a project together during the quarantine via e-mail. What was created was magical; won’t be heard here. , however I am still humbled by the collaborative experience & still enjoyed working together with 🥀.
What you’ll hear is the revised version of our collaboration. Unfortunately we opted to scrap the project due to creative differences, however when I went back months later and listened to the EP I realized it was far too moving of a piece of music not to be released in some manner. What I realized during that listening session months after scrapping the entire project was that we managed to encompass the entire feeling of the public during the pandemic. Without trying we had managed to create something violently beautiful and abrasive yet forgiving and fulfilling. I opted to remove my collaborator’s parts and finished what I realized was actually the soundtrack for 2020. It was an absolutely heart wrenching labor of work. I really loved the parts of which my collaborator had provided however I knew I could replace it with varying instrumentation of which I did. I however the mixing process was tedious and absolutely soul crushing. I wanted the soundtrack for 2020 to somehow managed to remind people of that time not so long ago when things were so strange and we all were nearly grasping at straws . To not get complacent now that we seemingly have it under control?
I truly hope you take the time to listen with headphones/ to use this as a meditative experience. The first song is the only song of which I had to take away any of my collaborators parts & is the lead of this EP. the rest of the EP are essentially songs I felt went along with the overall theme and seemed to fall in place with track one. “The Soundtrack for 2020.”
